Product information "Straight razor 5/8" carbon | Barbarossa olive wood"
DOVO Barbarossa straight razor 5/8" olive wood
The DOVO Barbarossa in 5/8 inch was designed for the needs of barbers and bearded men. What makes this straight razor special is its short blade, which is particularly manoeuvrable and easy to guide with precision. This lets you shape your beard and its contours with millimetre accuracy. A visual highlight is the fine engraving of the famous bearded emperor Barbarossa.
MATERIAL
This straight razor is made of carbon steel with the material number 1.2210, better known as silver steel. To reach a hardness of around 61 HRC, the material is heated to over 1000 degrees and then immediately quenched in a special oil. The subsequent tempering at around 200 degrees gives the blade elasticity and toughness.
HANDLE MATERIAL
Olive wood is a unique natural material. It is harder than native oak or beech and is highly resistant to mould. Even untreated olive wood offers above-average resistance to water, which naturally makes it the perfect material for straight razors, shaving brushes and shavettes.
GRIND
With a hollow grind, the straight razor is ground concave from the spine to the edge. This design combines great flexibility with high torsional rigidity along its length. The dynamics of the blade ensure a gentle shave, accompanied by a very characteristic sound produced by the razor vibrating as it cuts through the hair.
BLADE DESCRIPTION
The Spanish point is an elaborately designed straight razor point. What makes it special is that it is shaped concave with a slightly rounded tip. This curve makes it easier to shave even tricky areas around the ears, nose and dimples. This design gives you high precision without sacrificing a basic level of safety.
BLADE WIDTH
Straight razors in the 5/8 inch size are true all-rounders and handle every task in classic wet shaving with flying colours. The blade is relatively heavy and can therefore glide gently over your skin without much pressure. At the same time, it is still manoeuvrable enough to deal nimbly with the more technically demanding areas around the nose, ears and chin.
CARE
Carbon steel is not stainless. Rinse the blade after shaving, dry it thoroughly and leave the razor open to dry completely. Before every shave, strop the blade on the strop. The guide Straight razor care explains how stropping works. If you are new to straight razors, you will find the process step by step under Straight razors for beginners.
